Conference Agenda Offers Many Opportunities

The 2008 conference agenda is hot off the press. (Click here to download a copy.) Speakers include The Honourable Ron Liepert, Minister of Health for Alberta, and doctors Stephen Strum, Larry Goldenberg, and Mark Moyad. The topics covered range from effective, holistic ways of supporting men's health in general (and their prostate health in particular) to the specifics of dietary supplements, osteoporosis, or the importance of medical concepts in prostate cancer.

As mentioned previously, one special feature of the 2008 conference will be an emphasis on prostate cancer as a disease confronted by couples. On the Monday, Andrea Beck and Dr. John Robinson will moderate a panel discussion entitled "Women with Prostate Cancer" --- which should be intriguing. In that spirit as well, representatives from the Albert Cancer Board and the University of Calgary are hosting a breakfast meeting on Tuesday, August 5 for men and women who are interested in discussing the challenges couples face when hormone therapy is used to treat prostate cancer. (See this invitation.)

Note, too, that the agenda promises a “surprise fun night at the Palliser.” Come prepared to be entertained western style. Now where are those cowboy boots?

Apart from the excellent sessions advertised in the agenda, Calgary itself offers a wealth of entertainment opportunities in August. The famous Cirque du Soleil opens a show called Corteo on July 31, 2008. The show, which runs until August 24, will be held under the Grand Chapiteau at Currie Barracks on Parade Square. (For more information visit the Cirque du Soleil website.)

And, of course, there are many shows on at the Rosebud Theatre and Stage West.

All things considered, you won't want to miss Conference 2008.
